Jordanka Milkova - Mezzosoprano

The mezzosoprano Jordanka Milkova completed her training as an opera singer at the Music Academy in her home city of Sofia. She then obtained a pass with distinction from the Swiss Opera Studio at the University of the Arts in Berne and simultaneously accepted key roles at the Ensembletheater Biel-Solothurn. Engagements followed throughout Europe on opera and concert stages at the Helsinki Music Center, Tampere Hall in Finland, Tonhalle Zurich, KKL Lucerne, Casino Basel, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Philharmonie Sofia, National Opera Sofia, National Opera Prague, Aalto Theater Essen, Theater Basel, Théâtre National du Luxembourg, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti di Modena, Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Opernhaus Halle, Augsburg, Freiburg i.Br., Theatre am Revier Gelsenkirchen, Theater Lübeck, Stadttheater Bern,Stadttheater Luzern, Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole as well as at Oper im Steinbruch in St. Margarethen in Austria and at Murten Classics.

At the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland she has performed three seasons and celebrated her highly successful Wagner debut as Ortrud with Philippe Auguin as conductor. Subsequently the singer guested also at the Hong Kong Arts Festival with the same role. At the Internationalen Maifestspielen in Wiesbaden Jordanka Milkova sang the role of Venus at the side of Klaus Florian Vogt as Tannhäuser.

Her broad repertoire includes the great mezzo roles such as Carmen, Delilah, Eboli, Amneris, Ulrica, Marfa, Klythamnestra, Jezibaba, foreign Princess, Nicklausse, Ascanio, the Composer, Annio, Hänsel as well as Fenena, Suzuki, Maddalena, Dorabella, Erda and many more.

As a concert singer, she performs regularly with masterpieces. Her repertoire includes inter alia the Verdi-Requiem, the Requiem by W.A. Mozart, the II., III. and the VIII. Symphonie by Gustav Mahler, the Sieben Lieder by Alma Mahler, Stabat Mater by Antonin Dvorak, the Symphonie der Klagelieder by Henryk M. Gorecki, Les Nuits d'été by H. Berlioz, Poème de l'amour et de la mer by E. Chausson, the Wesendoncklieder by Richard Wagner.

Several critics in the specialist publication «Opernwelt» nominated Jordanka Milkova as «the best new artist» for her interpretation of Amneris. 

Last season she made her house debut at the Semperoper Dresden as Carmen and her role debut at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden as Azucena. During this season, the artist will perform the title role in Bizet's Carmen at the National Opera Prague and Filipyevna in the opera Eugene Onegin by P.I. Tchaikovsky at the Lucerne Theatre.
